THIS is an amazingly concise article about the culture of ‘victim blaming’ by political analyst Zerlina Maxwell. Though there will always be the more fundamental issue of why men rape which needs to be dealt with, the article discusses some key issues in where to start in educating men rather than telling women how to avoid sexual assault.
“How about we teach young men when a woman says stop, they stop? How about we teach young men that when a woman has too much to drink that they should not have sex with her, if for no other reason but to protect themselves from being accused of a crime? How about we teach young men that when they see their friends doing something inappropriate to intervene or to stop being friends? “
The Men Can Stop Rape ’Where Do You Stand?’ campaign is doing something to work towards this and their posters are to the point. This needs so much more attention.
